Useful Luck
by azukaar
With Useful Luck installed, the Luck stat changes which items show up in loot tables, instead of only affecting fishing as it does in vanilla Minecraft.
What it does
Useful Luck reworks how the Luck stat acts across the game. In vanilla it mostly shapes fishing; here it raises the rarity and quality of items rolled from chests and from mobs when they are killed. The mod works by changing the loot table results rather than adding new drops, and its internal calculation follows the usual loot table processing so the distribution stays proper.
The mod can be tuned at length through datapacks, so a modpack author can adjust how strongly Luck pushes loot, and can add effects of its own. A smart sorting step selects loot for chests so that a high Luck value does not flood a chest with more items than it can hold. Luck can also carry a negative effect that adds variety to the loot.
Installation needs only Useful Luck itself on either loader, Forge or NeoForge, and it runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source; its source code and issue tracker are public. Files are published for 1.20.1 – 1.21.11, with 1.0.5 as the latest build for both loaders.
Key features
Luck affects loot tables
Luck raises the chance of rarer and higher quality items in chests and in mob loot, rather than only in fishing.
Datapack configuration
The effect of Luck can be tuned through datapacks, letting modpack authors choose how loot responds to the stat.
Smart chest sorting
A sorting algorithm picks loot for chests so that high Luck values do not overflow a container with items.
Compatible with other loot mods
The mod is written non-invasively, so it works with chest loot and with mods that change how chests behave, such as Lootr.
Vanilla-friendly calculation
Loot is computed through the normal loot table process, keeping distribution consistent with the game's own rules.

How it compares
LuckyLootChest is a Forge and NeoForge loot mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, with All rights reserved licensing and no public open source code. StrongLuck is a NeoForge mod for 1.21 that is client-side only and released under the MIT License, so servers do not need it. Good Luck! runs server-side only on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.21.1 – 1.21.3 under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only.

What the author says
If you ever invested in your luck stat in Minecraft in order to get better loots in chest... You got scammed! Luck is probably the most misunderstood stat in Minecraft, but long story short: it only really affects fishing (with few neglictable exceptions). See the problem statement section for more details!
