Simple Saddle

by Nat_68

Simple Saddle is a server-required, client-optional mod that lets players craft saddles from common materials instead of finding them in dungeon loot or fishing.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalCreative Commons Attribution 4.01.15 – 1.21.5

What it does

Saddles can be crafted from accessible materials, which removes the dependency on dungeon loot and fishing. Players who want to ride horses early in a survival world no longer have to rely on random drops before they can explore on horseback.

The mod runs on the server, and players join without it, so clients can leave it out. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 32 release versions, 1.15 – 1.21.5, with snapshot builds also available. The latest file, 1.3.0+mod, targets 1.21.5 on every loader and was dated 2026-09-26.

The mod is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 and is not open source. The author team is Nat_68, and the project keeps a public issue tracker for reports.

Key features

  1. Craftable saddles

Saddles are crafted from materials most players collect early, so horses are reachable without loot or fishing.

  2. Early-game riding

Horseback travel becomes an early option, which suits survival worlds where exploration starts soon after spawning.

  3. Datapack distribution

A data pack version is available for servers, so the recipe can be added to a world's datapacks folder instead of installing a mod.

  4. Reload support

Changes take effect after the world reloads its datapacks, without restarting the game.

Questions

Does Simple Saddle need to be installed on the client?

No. It is required on the server and optional for players. Players can join without installing anything.

Which loaders does Simple Saddle support?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt all have files, and the latest file for each is 1.3.0+mod for 1.21.5.

Is there a data pack version?
