Random's Wildlife

The mod aims to add new kinds of creatures that feel closer to the real world. Animals such as snakes, bears, giraffes and elephants have behaviors, textures and sounds of their own, and they drop custom items. A snake is venomous and attacks only when a player provokes it, while bears protect their babies much as polar bears do in vanilla.

Spawning follows the environment: deserts, forests and jungles each host creatures whose textures match the biome. Butterflies appear as ambient life in forests, with ten variants that add color to the scenery. Giraffes live on savanna terrain and reach almost six blocks in height, so approaching one is not always safe.

Items from the drops form the crafting side of the mod, including a Poison Dagger, Butterfly Elytra, Fur Carpet, Bear Head with Carpet, Elephant Armor and a Tongue Potion brewed from giraffe tongue. The mod is published for Fabric only, for Minecraft 1.20.1, and it runs on client and server, so both sides need it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source; the source code is public.
