Places is a Forge and NeoForge mod that adds four new dimensions, along with a few smaller sub-dimensions, to the liminal-space genre.

What it does

Places focuses on exploration in a survival and sandbox setting. Alongside its new dimensions, it adds mobs, items, paintings, music, blocks and music discs, drawing on other liminal-space games for its aesthetic. Players who want an unsettling, empty-feeling world to explore will find the new dimensions the mod's main content.

Two compatibility add-ons extend the mod. Chalk support adds recipes for obtaining chalks, Gallery support is built in, and a Neapolitan Environmental Atmospheric add-on adds a couple of food-item recipes. The Polaroid add-on changes loot pools and rooms, adding custom findable photos that integrate with Exposure. A separate Places-sable compatibility mod requires Places.

The mod contains flashing lights, and the latest update adds a photosensitivity config intended to reduce them. Players with photosensitivity should check that setting before playing. Places runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Builds exist for Forge and NeoForge, for Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. The code is not open source; it is released under All rights reserved.
