No Op Spawn Protection

by kreezxil

No Op Spawn Protection changes the spawn protection radius for each dimension, and server operators can adjust it with in-game commands.

ForgeServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.11.2 – 1.12.2

What it does

Spawn protection in vanilla Minecraft stops players without operator rights from changing blocks around the spawn point, and its radius is set in server.properties. Mojang changed how that setting functions in later releases, and the op time option at world creation is ignored when disabled. This mod gives server owners control over the radius and the rules that apply inside it, for the Overworld, Nether and End separately.

Radii can be set anywhere from 0 to 10000, with granular level controls for what a protected area blocks. The default protection is 16 blocks. Protected actions include placing blocks, right clicking blocks and items, pushing buttons, flipping levers, opening doors, gates and trap doors, and using chests, furnaces and other machines. Commands change the configuration on a running server, so a restart is not needed. The mod has to be installed on a dedicated server; it is server-side only, and players join without it.

Key features

  1. Per-dimension radius

Spawn radii can differ between the Overworld, Nether and End, and the sp-radius setting applies to all three worlds.

  2. In-game configuration

Commands change behavior and the sp-display command shows the current readout, without editing server.properties or restarting.

  3. Granular action control

Each player action inside the protected area, from block placing to container use, can be allowed or denied separately.

  4. Testing without a survival player

The sp-ignore setting lets an operator test commands and protection behavior without having a survival player nearby.

Use cases

Server spawn hubs

Server owners can keep the area around the spawn point safe while letting players build and interact elsewhere.

Dimension-specific rules

A server can protect a larger area in the Nether than in the Overworld, using the separate per-dimension settings.

Who it’s for: Server owners and operators running Forge 1.11.2 or 1.12.2 dedicated servers who want finer control over spawn protection than the vanilla server.properties setting gives.

Questions

Does No Op Spawn Protection need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Can the spawn protection radius be changed without restarting the server?

Yes. Commands modify the configuration, and the server applies the change without a reboot.

Which game versions does the mod support?

Forge files exist for 1.11.2 and 1.12.2. The latest file is 2.3.23 for 1.12.2, published on 2022-05-26.
