Mercenary
by Acrogenous
Mercenary is a Fabric transportation and adventure mod in which players take on quests that send them between villages and into hostile places.
What it does
Quests in the mod ask a player to deliver a package to a named village, or to clear the hostile mobs near a location. A quest is complete once the required block is placed at or near the target location and the remaining mobs in a small radius are gone. Mobs that are still alive in that radius receive a glowing effect, so they stay visible until they are dealt with. The quest set and its hostile locations come from a datapack, so a world can change them.
Players start and track jobs through an in-game keybind and a scoreboard built on the vanilla scoreboard system, which lets a group see who has completed what. A later update added the ability to remove quests a player no longer wants, and a keybind that counts emeralds held in the main hand, so a player can pay for a job in emeralds. The mod runs on client and server, and is open source under the MIT License.
Mercenary requires Async Locator, which the server uses to find the target locations. Files are published for Fabric only, across six game versions 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, and the latest is 1.1.2 for 1.20.6, released on 2024-07-21.
