Limbo
by LOOHP
Limbo is a standalone server program that holds players in a lightweight waiting room, such as an AFK lobby on a network, before they move to another server.
What it does
Limbo runs as its own server process rather than as a plugin inside a larger server. Players connect to it and wait there, which suits AFK waiting rooms on a server network. Its configuration lives in server.properties, and changes take effect after a restart. The program is still under development, and new features keep being added.
For a network, the Limbo server is set up behind a BungeeCord proxy. The setup guide asks for the proxy's remember setting to be switched on. Limbo can also work without a proxy, since it acts as a backend server on its own. The default world is loaded from a small.schem file, and player skins are supported. The Limbo plugin ViaLimbo makes it possible to serve clients on other protocol versions.
The program is published for Java Agent only, so no Fabric or Forge build exists. Files cover 33 release versions 1.17.1 – 26.3, and the latest file, 2026.0.3-ALPHA, targets 26.3 on the alpha channel. Limbo is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, and it is open source under the Apache License 2.0.
Key features
Standalone waiting room
Limbo runs as a separate server program that players join while they wait, so the lobby does not need a full game server.
Schematic default world
The default world is loaded from a small.schem file, and player skins are displayed.
Plugin hooks
Plugins can listen to chat events, add commands, send custom packets and add worlds.
Proxy setup
On a BungeeCord network, the proxy is configured to forward players to the Limbo server, and it can also run alone.

This standalone server program can act as any other backend server in your bungeecord network (tho can also work without, options in server.properties). Currently, the program is still under development and things will continue to be added.
