Left Hand Implemented

by EndNalas

Left Hand Implemented puts the main-hand item in the left hand of the first-person view on Forge 1.8.9, matching how newer Minecraft versions draw it.

What it does

Left Hand Implemented adds a main-hand left setting to Minecraft 1.8.9. With it enabled, the first-person view draws the held item in the left hand, which 1.8.9 does not do by default and which later game versions already include. The option can be switched on and off during play by pressing L, and the Settings GUI, reached through Options, Skin Customization, offers a Right/Left button for the same choice.

The mod runs on Forge 1.8.9 and needs Forge 11.15.1.2318 or later along with the Mixin support it depends on, which must be installed as a separate required component. Only the client needs it, so players install the JAR in the mods folder and servers do not need to change. The code is under the MIT License, and the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Left-hand rendering

The held item is drawn in the left hand of the first-person view, as in newer Minecraft versions.

  2. Settings screen

A Right/Left button under Options, Skin Customization switches the main hand without editing any file.

  3. Offset adjustment

X, Y and Z position and rotation can be tuned separately for each hand's item, so the view can be fitted to taste.

  4. Config file

Values are stored in lefthand.cfg, which can be edited by hand if a player prefers text over the in-game screen.

Use cases

Left-handed players

Players who hold their mouse on the left, or who simply find the left-hand view more comfortable, can match the hand to their habit.

Recording and screenshots

A different hand placement can keep the held item clear of the centre of the screen in footage or captures.

Who it’s for: Players of the 1.8.9 version of Minecraft who want the first-person hand drawn on the left, with Forge installed.

Questions

Does Left Hand Implemented need extra Mixin support?

Yes. Mixin support is required, so it must be installed alongside Left Hand Implemented on Forge 1.8.9.

Does the server need the mod?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy.

Where are the settings saved?

Values are stored in lefthand.cfg, and the offsets can be edited there or changed through the Settings GUI.
