Jail Logic

by n3mmuss

Jail Logic lets server operators confine a player to a virtual prison, where interactions with blocks, entities and items are blocked until the sentence ends.

FabricServer-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.21 – 1.21.1

What it does

A jailed player is held in a closed structure built at coordinates set with a command. Operators send a player to jail with a reason that is shown to that player, and the imprisoned player can check the time left until release. While jailed, a player cannot break or place blocks, use objects such as buckets, or interact with entities. Release happens automatically after the set time, or an administrator can release the player by hand.

The mod is built for Minecraft servers that want temporary penalties, such as limiting movement after griefing. Its messages and the location where released players appear are stored in a configuration file that is generated automatically, with default messages that can be changed to suit a server's tone and style. The configuration can be reloaded with a command without restarting the server.

Jail Logic is published for Fabric only, with builds for 1.21 and 1.21.1 and 1.5 for 1.21.1 as the latest file. It needs Fabric API on the server. It runs on the server alone, so players join without installing anything. The code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later.

Key features

  1. Temporary imprisonment

For the duration set, a confined player cannot interact with blocks, entities or items, including lava and water buckets.

  2. Automatic and manual release

A jailed player is released automatically when the time runs out, or an administrator can release them early by hand.

  3. Imprisonment reason

Each jailing can carry a reason, which is communicated to the imprisoned player in the game.

  4. Remaining time command

Imprisoned players can check how much time remains until their release.

  5. Configurable prison location

Coordinates for the prison and for the release point are set with a command, such as jail set 0 60 0.

Use cases

Griefing penalties

A server sends a player to jail with a reason such as griefing, for a fixed time, instead of banning them outright.

Who it’s for: Server owners running survival or multiplayer servers who want a temporary, reversible penalty that restricts a player's actions in the world.

Questions

Does Jail Logic need to be installed on players' clients?

No. The mod is server-side only, so only the server needs it and players join without installing anything.

Which loader does Jail Logic support?

Only Fabric is supported, and Fabric API is needed on the server. Builds are published for 1.21 and 1.21.1.

How is a jailed player sent to prison?

An administrator uses a jail command with the player's name, a time and a reason. The location of the prison is set beforehand with jail set and can be reloaded from the configuration with jail reload.
