Iron Generators

by realzhefop

Iron Generators adds a tier of power generators that burn iron, with a stone generator at the bottom and a netherite generator at the top of the chain.

ForgeServer-side onlyMIT License1.16.5 – 1.19.2

What it does

Each generator in the set converts iron into energy. The stone generator is the lowest tier at 50% efficiency, using 15 iron per tick. The iron, gold, diamond, obsidian and netherite generators follow, with efficiency rising from 80% to 200% and iron consumption rising from 24 to 60 per tick. Higher tiers produce more power per unit of fuel, so a base needs fewer of them for the same output.

The mod also lists generators tied to other mods, including Mekanism and Applied Energistics 2 variants built on metals such as bronze, copper, lead, osmium, refined obsidian, steel and tin, plus certus and skystone. Those entries depend on the mods they name, so the mod works as an extra set of power sources in a modpack rather than a standalone system. Some generators are craftable from common materials, while others are unobtainable in survival.

Installation requires Forge. The mod is published for 1.16.5, 1.18.2 and 1.19.2, and the latest file targets 1.19.2 and was released on 2024-02-09. It is server-side only, so players join a server running it without installing anything. The code is released under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Five iron-fed tiers

Stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite generators burn iron at increasing rates for higher output.

  2. Obsidian generator

An obsidian tier sits between diamond and netherite, at 150% efficiency and 45 iron per tick.

  3. Metal-based variants

Generators are added for bronze, copper, lead, osmium, refined obsidian, steel and tin, linked to Mekanism.

  4. Certus and skystone variants

Generators built on certus and skystone are added for Applied Energistics 2, with their own fuel costs.

  5. Low-cost crafting

Basic generators need only a few diamonds and obsidian, so new players can build early power quickly.

How it compares

Full comparison

Mekanism Generators is open source under the MIT License and runs on Forge and NeoForge across 1.7.10 – 1.21.1, with both sides needing it. Portable Generators is a Forge mod for 1.14.4 – 1.20.1 under All rights reserved, and it also requires both client and server. Iron Generators differs by needing only the server, with its own iron-fed tiers rather than a Mekanism power network.

Questions

Does Iron Generators need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Which Minecraft versions does Iron Generators support?

The mod has Forge files for 1.16.5, 1.18.2 and 1.19.2. The latest file is 3.1.0 for 1.19.2.

Do the Mekanism and Applied Energistics 2 generators need those mods?

The entries tied to those mods depend on them, so the extra generators only work when the named mods are also installed.

What the author says

The "More Generators" - Mod adds brand new Generators to the game! They consume any kind of fuel with a burn tick time. So it's very simple to craft these with some diamonds and obsidian, but this mod should be easy for newcommers or an fast possibility for low energy production.
