Cold Sweat: Altitude

by SprocketGames

Cold Sweat: Altitude is a NeoForge addon for Cold Sweat that ties its temperature to height, so a mountain climb or an airship ride feels different from travelling at sea level.

NeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1

What it does

The addon adds altitude-based temperature zones to Cold Sweat. Warm underground layers give way to temperate surface conditions, then cold mountains and a hazardous upper sky, with smooth gradients between the bands rather than abrupt jumps. Players get clear colour-coded feedback when they move between layers, and the same system gives modpack makers control over caves, mountains and the layers in between.

Wind exposure rises with height, making open-air travel in high-altitude areas more dangerous. Shelter can reduce that exposure on land or aboard a ship. The addon also keeps altitude, temperature and wind active for assembled ships in Create-based builds that fly. Cold Sweat's biome weather, thermal blocks, hearth insulation and other systems keep working alongside the altitude effects.

The addon depends on Cold Sweat and needs version 2.4.4 or newer of it. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source. It runs on NeoForge for 1.21.1 only, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Latest file: 0.8.1 for 1.21.1, released 2026-10-01.

Key features

  1. Altitude temperature bands

Temperature shifts across height-based layers, from warm underground to a hazardous upper sky.

  2. Gradual transitions

Temperature changes smoothly between adjacent altitude layers instead of jumping at a boundary.

  3. Wind exposure

High-altitude open areas expose players to wind, and shelter reduces that exposure.

  4. Windproof Lining sewing

Windproof Lining armour is made at the Sewing Table to prepare for exposed flights.

  5. Colour-coded feedback

Players see colour-coded indicators when they move between altitude layers.

Questions

Does Cold Sweat: Altitude need Cold Sweat installed?

Yes. Cold Sweat 2.4.4 or newer is required, and the altitude effects extend that mod's temperature system.

Does the server need Cold Sweat: Altitude?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Does the addon work with flying ships?

Yes. Altitude, temperature and wind still apply to assembled ships, so flying ships feel the height effects.
