Chance Globe

by bl4ckscor3

Chance Globe is a block that, once placed, turns into a random block or item from a list after a short delay, so players can open it like a loot box.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.12.2 – 26.3

What it does

Placing a Chance Globe spawns a random block item from the available blocks and items, and after about 10 seconds the globe gives the player the chosen block or drops the matching item. Results are based purely on chance, so a player may receive something useful or something like a stick or dirt block, and rare results such as a nether star or a diamond block are possible.

The mod includes filter lists for blocks and items, identified by registry names such as minecraft:grass or minecraft:stick. Filtering can be switched on or off, and it works in two modes: a blacklist that excludes the listed entries, or a whitelist that limits results to them. The default lists are set to a blacklist and contain entries such as bedrock, command blocks and barriers, so those do not appear by default.

Chance Globe is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 36 release versions, 1.12.2 – 26.3, and is released under the MIT License, so it is open source. The server and every player need the mod installed. Its 1.19.3 content, including the plank and glass types, is part of experimental datapacks and is only available when the matching datapack is enabled.

Key features

  1. Random block or item

Each placed globe produces a random block or item from the available pool once its timer ends.

  2. Blacklist and whitelist filters

Filtering lists can be enabled to exclude or limit blocks and items by registry name.

  3. Default safety blacklist

The default filter excludes entries such as bedrock, command blocks and barriers.

  4. Experimental datapack content

Extra plank and glass types for 1.19.3 are only received when the corresponding datapack is enabled.

Use cases

Loot box style rewards

Server owners and map makers can use globes as a random reward source in adventure maps and minigames.

Chance-based crafting games

Players can test their luck by placing globes instead of collecting resources in a fixed way.

Who it’s for: Players looking for a random source of blocks and items, and server owners who want to control which entries can appear through the filter lists.

Questions

Does Chance Globe need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

How do the filter lists work?

Filtering is turned on in the config. Blocks and items are listed by registry name, and the filter mode decides whether the list acts as a blacklist or a whitelist.

Which loader can run Chance Globe?

Chance Globe is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, so any of these loaders can run it on 1.12.2 – 26.3 with the matching file.
