BuddycardsJS
by Pagan
BuddycardsJS is a Forge addon for KubeJS that lets modpack developers and addon makers define custom Buddycards content from JSON files.
What it does
Content is defined in files placed in the kubejs folder. BuddycardsJS reads them and generates the assets and data a custom set needs, so custom sets, cards, packs, booster boxes and loot injections can be built without hardcoding them in Java. Textures are added alongside the JSON, and the generated files are handled on launch.
Its role is to work alongside KubeJS Buddycards, which makes it easier to define content in data. Installation requires the mods it depends on, the correct Minecraft Forge version, and placing the content files in the kubejs folder before launching the game. Files are published for Forge, for 1.20.1 only, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need it. The code is under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Custom sets and cards
Developers define new Buddycards sets and individual cards in JSON, with textures attached to each entry.
Packs and booster boxes
Custom card packs and booster boxes are described in data, so their contents can be changed without editing code.
Loot injections
Cards can be injected into loot tables through data files, so they appear as drops in the world.
Generated assets
The mod generates the remaining assets from the content files, so a developer only writes the definitions and textures.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Modpack development
Pack developers add Buddycards content to a modpack by dropping JSON and texture files into the kubejs folder.
Addon creation
Addon makers expand Buddycards with data-driven content and skip writing Java for each new set.
Who it’s for: Modpack developers and addon makers who want to expand Buddycards content through KubeJS scripts and data files rather than code.
How it compares
Create Buddycards is a Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 that is client and server and not open source, while BuddycardsJS is Forge only and built for 1.20.1 alone. Aquaculture Buddycards [Frontport] is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 with the same client and server environment, under All rights reserved. MoreJS: KubeJS Addon is a different kind of addon, covering Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.18.2 – 1.21.1 and licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.
