ASMC

by AstroTibs

ASMC brings sound changes from newer Minecraft releases back to Forge builds, and the client needs it installed to hear them.

ForgeClient required, server optionalGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.7.10 – 1.12.2

What it does

The mod backports a set of sound events from later Minecraft versions into earlier ones, so familiar audio cues appear in older game builds. Many of these sounds are swapped in on the client, and several are governed by config options labeled as server-side even though the mod itself runs on the client.

Only the client is required to run the mod; the server is optional. Builds are published for Forge alone and cover six game versions, with 1.0.2-1.12.2 for 1.12.2 as the latest file. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and source code is public.

Key features

  1. Earlier-version sound backports

Sounds from later Minecraft versions are ported back into the older game, covering six releases.

  2. Beacon power change sound

A beacon plays a sound when its power level changes, using the backported audio.

  3. Enchanting table sound swap

Placing an item in the enchanting table swaps an unenchanted item with an enchanted one of the same kind while the matching sound plays.

  4. Armor stand portal sounds

Armor stands that travel through a Nether portal play transport sounds, a case the author notes as doable with this mod.

Use cases

Client-side audio update

A player on an older Forge version who wants newer sound cues can add the mod to the client without changing the server.

Who it’s for: Players running Forge on older releases who want backported sounds. Server owners can keep the server unmodified, since the mod is optional there.

Questions

Does Forge ASMC need to be installed on the server?

No. Only the player's client needs the mod, and the server can add it for extra features.

Which game versions does ASMC support?

Files cover six releases, with the latest Forge file being 1.0.2-1.12.2 for 1.12.2.

Why do some config options say server-side?

The author notes that many sound events run on the client, while some config entries are labeled server-side. Those labels do not change where the mod itself runs.

What the author says

If the mod keeps freezing your game on world load, it may be because the website hosting my code repository is down. Try setting Version Checker to false. This mod simply backports various sounds to Minecraft versions 1.7.10 through 1.12.2.
