AeroWeather
by PostMalloy
AeroWeather adds a configurable wind system that pushes contraptions around, with wind strength shaped by terrain and weather.
What it does
Wind speed and direction are generated from a flowmap, so open flat biomes receive stronger wind than hilly or forested ones. Gusts and wind storms rise and fall over time, and a semi-random walk cycle changes the wind speed and direction, with biome influence applied on top. Players can boost the maximum wind speed or fall back to the vanilla weather patterns in the settings.
Windmills from Create are affected by the local wind, both in speed and direction, and the mod makes higher ground an advantageous place to build them. Wind also drives campfire smoke, falling leaves and its own wind particles, which move with the wind. Particle behavior can be toggled and set to appear only near contraptions with lifting properties, and force calculations and maximum forces are configurable.
The mod is published for NeoForge only, for Minecraft 1.21.1, and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source. Its source code and issue tracker are public, and the latest file, 1.6.0, was published on 2026-10-13.
Key features
Terrain-based wind
Wind is stronger over flat biomes and weaker over hilly and forested ones, using a flowmap.
Gusts and wind storms
Gusts and storms increase and decrease the wind over time, with matching wind sounds.
Wind-driven particles
Campfire smoke, falling leaves and wind particles move with the wind, and their appearance can be toggled.
Windmill response
Create windmills respond to local wind speed and direction, and both are configurable.
Adjustable parameters
Wind speed, direction, biome influence and the semi-random cycles can be changed, and the maximum forces on contraptions can be set.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who run contraptions that the wind can move, and server owners who want wind behavior they can tune. Both client and server need the mod.
