Particle Enhancer

by Tomanex

Particle Enhancer raises the cap on how many particles can be drawn at once, from 4,000 to 256,000 per texture layer, on Forge and ModLoader.

ForgeModLoaderClient and serverMIT License1.2.5 – 1.3.1

What it does

The mod patches a hard-coded limit in the particle renderer. The stock game stops drawing particles past 4,000 per texture layer, so busy scenes lose effects. With the patch, far more particles can be rendered at the same time, which keeps dense smoke, sparks and similar effects from being cut short.

Because the change touches rendering, the environment is client and server: both the server and every player need the mod. Builds exist for 1.2.5 and 1.3.1, with 1.3.1 as the latest file for both Forge and ModLoader, released 2026-03-13 under the MIT License. It is not open source.

Key features

  1. Higher particle cap

Raises the number of simultaneously rendered particles from 4,000 to 256,000 per texture layer.

  2. Patch to renderer limit

The change targets a hard-coded limit in the particle code rather than adding new particle types.

  3. Dense effect scenes

Busy areas with many smoke, spark or spell particles can keep their full effects instead of dropping them.

  4. Dragon Mounts support

The mod is noted as relevant to the Dragon Mounts mod, which is one of the mods the author text names.

Use cases

Heavy particle scenes

Players who build or play in areas with many active effects can raise the particle budget so those effects are not clipped.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who run particle-heavy builds, modpacks or effect-rich mods on Forge or ModLoader for 1.2.5 or 1.3.1 will find the patch relevant.
