One Wish Willow

by asleepyhollow

One Wish Willow is a Forge mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 that adds a single item, a willow branch a player can break to make one wish that the mod then grants.

What it does

The willow is the only item the mod adds. A player obtains one from Villager Clerics once they reach the Journeyman level, usually as a single One Wish Willow trade per villager, and the item can be sold to a cleric for eight emeralds. Right-clicking it plays a short jingle before a box reveals a prize, and a second right-click snaps the branch so the player can make a wish. The wish has to be typed in chat within a little over three minutes, and it must be written in lowercase.

The mod listens for keywords inside the typed wish, so words such as wish, weather or gamerule can trigger effects. Some wishes grant items, minerals, food, elytras or tridents, flying or healing, and some change game rules or turn off the weather cycle. Most effects last only until the player dies. Wishes mostly affect the caster. A wish related to a game rule is the exception. The mod is still in beta, and the author plans to add more wishes. The willowresetplayer command, which needs some permission level on servers, lets an operator reset a player's wish so they can make another.

The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and is not open source. Files are published for Forge only, with version 1.0.0 for 1.20.1 as the latest release, dated 2026-07-16. The author is asleepyhollow.

Key features

  1. One willow item

The willow branch is the only item the mod adds, and each use grants a single wish.

  2. Keyword-based wishes

Typed wishes are matched against keywords, so the words in the text decide which effect triggers.

  3. Limited-duration effects

Most wish effects last only until the player dies, though some game-rule wishes persist.

  4. Resettable wish

The willowresetplayer command lets an operator clear a player's wish so they can make another one.

  5. Easter egg in a film reference

The mod includes an easter egg based on a horror film, and it is compatible with Fresh Animations.
