LinVerticalSlab

by Violet-Molder

LinVerticalSlab lets players place half-height blocks upright against a wall, adding vertical slab variants to the game on NeoForge.

NeoForgeClient and serverCreative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.01.21.1 – 1.21.9

What it does

Placing a half block against a side face with the right mouse button stands it upright, and holding Shift while placing it keeps the normal horizontal orientation. The mod generates its vertical models from a resource pack, so the generated resource pack has to be enabled manually after the first time a save is entered. Once it is enabled, pressing F3+T reloads the resource files so the changes take effect.

Vertical half blocks are built on the original SlabBlock class, which means the mod is theoretically compatible with other mods that add half blocks, provided those blocks are registered in a compatible way. The mod runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it. It is published for NeoForge only, for 1.21.1 – 1.21.9, and its latest file is 0.0.16 for 1.21.9. The code is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 license, so it is not open source.

Key features

  1. Upright half blocks

A half block placed against a side face stands upright instead of lying flat, giving a vertical slab shape.

  2. Horizontal placement with Shift

Holding Shift while placing a block keeps the usual horizontal orientation, so both forms can be used in the same build.

  3. Generated resource pack

Vertical models are produced by a generated resource pack that must be enabled manually after the first time a save is entered.

  4. Collision volume fix

Collision shapes for the vertical models are generated in the resource files; reloading with F3+T applies changes without restarting.

Use cases

Vertical wall trim

Builders can use upright half blocks to add narrow vertical bands along walls and corners.

Mixed slab layouts

Horizontal and upright placements can be mixed in one build, choosing the orientation per block with Shift.

Who it’s for: Builders who want half-height blocks in an upright position, and server owners who need the mod on both sides, since clients and the server must both run it.

Questions

Does LinVerticalSlab need to be installed on the server?

Yes. The server and every player need the mod installed.

Why do the vertical models not appear after installing?

The generated resource pack has to be enabled manually after entering a save for the first time. Pressing F3+T then reloads the resource files.

Which game versions does LinVerticalSlab support?

Files exist for 1.21.1 and 1.21.9, and the mod is published for NeoForge across the 1.21.1 – 1.21.9 range.

What the author says
