Lingua Peripherals

by Dr-Asm

Lingua Peripherals adds text-to-speech, text display, audio and file storage peripherals to CC:Tweaked computers on Forge and NeoForge.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.01.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The mod is a CC:Tweaked addon that adds language-related peripherals, which computers control through their code. A Narrator TTS block reads text aloud using Minecraft's built-in Narrator system, and a playVoice function sends speech to players within a set distance. Players can place a computer next to existing blocks to attach these peripherals, and display peripherals accept Chinese text entered as uXXXX Unicode escape sequences, which an online converter can produce in CC-compatible form.

Two more capabilities extend the speech features. A creative Narrator variant cannot be destroyed and can use globalVoice to make announcements across every dimension on a server. A cassette drive takes a single cassette tape, dyeable in 16 colors and crafted with dyes at a crafting table, and provides DFPWM audio playback and data input and output through computer functions, with each tape storing up to 1 MB of data. The maximum speech range defaults to 128 blocks and can be changed in the config, along with the interval between speech.

Lingua Peripherals runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 2.0.2 the latest Forge file and 2.0.1 the latest NeoForge file. The mod is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license and is not open source, though its source code is public.

Questions

Does Lingua Peripherals need CC:Tweaked?

Yes. The mod is a CC:Tweaked addon, and its peripherals are controlled through computers that CC:Tweaked provides.

Does the server need the mod, or only players?

The server and every player need the mod installed.

How are Chinese characters displayed?

Non-ASCII characters are entered as uXXXX Unicode escape sequences. An online converter can turn pasted Chinese text into this form.
