Itemless
by tildejustin
Itemless changes how stacks of items display in the inventory on Legacy Fabric, so that negative stack amounts are shown as numbers.
What it does
Itemless draws the count of a stack even when that count is negative, a case that vanilla builds of the game 1.3 – 1.5 tend to hide. Showing negative amounts makes an unusual state visible and lets a player read a zero count more clearly than an empty slot. The mod is client-side only, so only the player who installs it sees the change, and a server can run without it.
Files target 1.3.1 – 1.7.10 under the Legacy Fabric loader, with 21 release versions listed and 1.0.1-1.3-1.12.2 as the latest file for 1.7.10, published 2023-08-10. The author notes that the rendering is mainly aimed at versions 1.3 – 1.5, and that later builds skip stacks of size zero, which Itemless works around by calling a getter rather than reading the field directly. The mod is released under the MIT License, and its source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Negative stack counts
Stacks with a negative amount are rendered as numbers instead of being hidden from view.
Zero-count display
A stack reduced to zero can be shown as 0, which makes a count visible at a glance.
Getter-based stack size
Later versions skip stacks of size zero, so the mod reads the stack size through a getter rather than the field.
Version-specific behavior
The rendering differs between releases; the earliest build draws single items, while the next build does not.

Use cases
Inspecting odd inventory states
Players who run into negative or zero item counts in older versions can see the exact amount in the inventory.
Who it’s for: Players on Legacy Fabric who play the 1.3 – 1.7.10 releases and want to see item counts that vanilla would otherwise hide.

What the author says
What this mod does is allow you to see negative stack amounts rendered, which a helpful visualization for making 0 and negative stacks in 1.3-1.5. It works from versions 1.3.0 to 1.12.2, but between 1.8.0 and 1.12.0, the mod does nothing (this is because negative stacks are already rendered in that version range). In…
