Free The End

by StaticLabs

Free The End is a lightweight datapack that changes how the Free End advancement is granted in the End dimension.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalAll rights reserved1.20 – 26.1.1

What it does

In vanilla Minecraft, the Free End advancement is usually granted only to the player who lands the final blow on the Ender Dragon. This datapack grants it to every player in the End dimension when the dragon is defeated, so teammates who helped with the crystals and damage are not left out. Ender Dragon kills award experience points to the whole party, with the last hitter receiving the same milestone experience as everyone else.

The datapack is built around efficient predicates and functions so it does not affect the server's ticks per second, and it suits small friend groups as well as large survival multiplayer servers. Installation means placing the datapack in the world folder, and a server that is already running can apply it with a reload command in-game. It works with vanilla and with Fabric, Quilt, Forge and NeoForge, and it is compatible with most world-generation datapacks that buff the dragon.

Key features

  1. Shared Free End advancement

Every player in the End dimension receives the Free End advancement when the Ender Dragon is defeated.

  2. Shared experience

Milestone experience points are awarded to the whole party, not only to the player who lands the last hit.

  3. Advancement sniping prevention

Players cannot take an advancement that a teammate earned by contributing, which keeps progress fair on shared worlds.

  4. Live reload

On a server already running, the datapack can be applied with a reload command in-game, without a restart.

Use cases

Team End runs

Groups that split duties during the fight, such as crystal breaking and dragon damage, all receive credit.

Multiplayer SMPs

Large survival servers can keep the progression shared without manual awarding of advancements.

Who it’s for: Server owners running multiplayer survival worlds and players who want end fights credited to the whole team. It is a server-side datapack, so players joining without it are not affected.

Questions

Does Free The End need a mod loader?

No. It is a datapack and is also available for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt in the catalog listing, but it can be placed in the world folder of a vanilla server.

Does the server need the datapack installed?

Yes. The server must run the datapack, while players may leave it out, so either side can join without it and only the server needs it.

Can it be added to a world that is already running?

Yes. A server that is already running can apply the datapack with a reload command in-game.

What the author says

Tired of one person getting all the glory (and XP) during the dragon fight? In vanilla Minecraft, the "Free the End" advancement is usually only granted to the player who deals the final blow or is closest to the Ender Dragon. On multiplayer servers (SMPs), this often feels unfair to the rest of the team who helped…
