chain-mining

by wiesencao

With chain-mining installed, breaking one block can clear the connected ore, log or leaf cluster attached to it in a single action.

FabricClient or server, optionalApache License 2.01.21.1

What it does

Chain-mining is a Fabric mod that lets a player break one block and have every connected block of the same kind mined at once, covering ore veins, log clusters and similar groups. It also works with leaves, ores and logs, and the tool used is only charged a single point of durability per chain, regardless of how many blocks are broken. A preview shows white particle outlines of the blocks that will be mined before the break happens, so the player knows what will be taken.

The mod has a settings interface with a tab-based layout, a left-side navigation column and a right-side content area. A block blacklist can exclude specific blocks, and its entries take priority over the whitelist. A tool blacklist stops selected tools from triggering chain mining, and its editor lists only pickaxes, axes, shovels, hoes, swords and shears. Drops go directly into the player's inventory, with any overflow dropped at the player's feet, and the search fields in the editors accept both Chinese and English input.

Chain-mining is released for 1.21.1 only, as a Fabric build with the 1.1.0 file dated 2026-01-08. It is published under the Apache License 2.0, and the code is not open source. Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so it works on a client alone, a server alone or both.

Key features

  1. Vein and cluster mining

Breaking one block mines the entire connected group of the same kind, such as a full ore vein or a log cluster.

  2. Durability cost per chain

The whole chain consumes only one durability point, which keeps large mining runs from wearing a tool down.

  3. Block and tool blacklists

Specific blocks and tools can be excluded from chain mining, and the block blacklist overrides the whitelist when both apply.

  4. Fall damage immunity

After a chain mining action the player takes no fall damage once, which prevents a fatal drop from a deep vein.

  5. Bilingual search suggestions

Editor search works in Chinese and English, and suggestions favor localized names while long names are shortened automatically.

Questions

Does chain-mining need to be installed on the server?

No. Installing it on either side is enough, since it works on either side and neither needs it.

Which game version does chain-mining support?

It supports only 1.21.1, and the latest Fabric file is 1.1.0 for that version, dated 2026-01-08.

Can chain-mining be restricted to certain tools or blocks?

Yes. The tool blacklist prevents selected tools from triggering chain mining, and the block blacklist excludes chosen blocks, with its entries taking priority over the whitelist.
